privacy-policy

Last updated: October 6, 2026

ThumbGrab is a small, free tool that lets you preview and download the public thumbnail of a YouTube video. This page explains, in plain language, what happens to your information when you visit thumbgrabs.blogspot.com. We'll give you the short version first and the details after.

The short version

  • There are no accounts, no sign-ups and no passwords on this site.
  • As the tool is built today, the video link you paste is handled inside your own browser. We don't receive it and we don't store it.
  • We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages are useful. That involves cookies.
  • If you email us, we use your message only to reply to it.

What we collect automatically

Like almost every website, ours picks up some basic technical information when you visit. This comes from Google Analytics and from the hosting platform, Blogger, which is run by Google. It can include:

  • your approximate location (country or city level), worked out from your IP address;
  • the type of device, browser and operating system you use;
  • which pages you opened, how long you stayed, and the page that sent you here;
  • standard server log entries that Blogger keeps for security and operation.

We use this only to see what's working, fix what isn't and keep the site running. We don't try to work out who you are, and we don't sell this information.

What happens when you use the downloader

When you paste a YouTube link, the page picks out the video ID and asks YouTube's image servers (i.ytimg.com) for the matching thumbnails. Your browser makes those requests directly. That means YouTube receives them the way it would receive any image request, including your IP address, and its own privacy policy applies to that part. We never see the link, and we keep no list of the videos people look up.

Cookies

Analytics uses cookies to tell one visit from another. We describe each cookie, who sets it and how long it lasts on our Cookie Policy page, together with ways to switch them off.

Third parties involved

  • Google Blogger hosts the site.
  • Google Analytics measures traffic. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Google Fonts supplies the typefaces we use, which means your browser contacts Google's servers to load them.
  • YouTube serves the thumbnail images, as described above.

Advertising

We may show ads on this site now or in the future. If we do, the ad partners involved, Google among them, may use cookies to show ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites. You can manage personalised advertising any time through Google Ads Settings. We'll keep this section up to date if our advertising setup changes.

Messages you send us

If you write to us, we get your email address and whatever you put in the message. We use it to answer you and nothing else. We delete old messages from time to time, and you can ask us to delete yours sooner.

Children

ThumbGrab isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has sent us something, tell us and we'll remove it.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what information a business holds about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to certain uses. Because we hold so little, there is rarely much to find, but send us a request and we'll look into it. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser at any time.

How long we keep data

Analytics data is kept for as long as the retention period we've set inside Google Analytics, and Google manages server logs under its own policies. Emails are kept only as long as needed to deal with your message.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site works, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. Checking back now and then is the easiest way to stay informed.
