ThumbGrab started from a very ordinary annoyance: you can see a YouTube thumbnail everywhere, but you can't simply save it. No button, no menu option, nothing. So people end up taking screenshots that come out blurry, or hunting for the right image address by hand.
We built ThumbGrab to take that small chore off your plate. Paste a public video link, see the thumbnail straight away, and download the size you need. It's free, it works without an account, and it stays out of your way.
What the tool does
When you paste a link, ThumbGrab works out the video ID and checks which thumbnail versions YouTube has for that video. It then shows each one as its own card, so you can download the image or copy its direct address. The sizes you can get are:
- Max HD at 1280 x 720, the biggest version when it exists;
- SD at 640 x 480;
- HQ at 480 x 360;
- MQ at 320 x 180;
- Default and a few small frame previews at 120 x 90.
Not every video has every size. Older or low-resolution uploads often stop at HQ, and the tool only shows what is actually available.
Who it's for
Mostly creators and the people who work with them. Someone who lost the original file of their own thumbnail. A designer who wants a real thumbnail inside a mockup. A marketer lining up ten competing videos to see what the niche is doing. Teachers and students who need to show which video they're talking about. If that sounds like you, you're exactly who we had in mind.
How we think about it
- Simple first. One box, one button, a clear result. We would rather do one thing well than pile on features nobody asked for.
- Creators come first. Thumbnails are somebody's creative work. We say so openly, and our disclaimer and copyright page explain how to use images responsibly and how to reach us if you're an owner with a concern.
- Light on your data. No registration, no stored video links. You can read the details on our Privacy Policy.
What we are not
ThumbGrab is an independent project. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube or Google. YouTube and its logo belong to their respective owners, and the thumbnails you see belong to the people who made the videos.
The person behind it
